Day 19 of 40: As Orthodox Christians we are a minority in America and in the world. Winning an argument is important. You may be confused right now, so let’s define “win.”
In the gospels we are told that if we elevate ourselves we will be humbled, and if we humble ourselves we will be elevated. We are also told that the first shall be last and the last shall be first. Winning an argument begins by humbling yourself, which is rare is American Christianity.
Think about what America does not like about Christianity. It’s the pride, arrogance, and judgmental attitude. God is the perfect judge and we are imperfect. The best way to win an argument is to present yourself as imperfect.
One way of defining humility is the embracing of reality. Do non-Christians see you as someone connected with reality? If so, you are on your way to the other secret for winning an argument. Hint: it has to do with divinizing the argument.
